Real History Archives saved, and Watchmen

Quick note: I found a way to save the Real History Archives, so they'll be around for some time to come.

Quick note 2: I watched the Watchmen, and wished I hadn't. See my review over at ConsortiumNews.com.

Lisa...I would recommend that you read the graphic novel.

The movie cannot do it justice.

Here's some background:

Dr. Manhattan's presence turned the tide for the Vietnam War; this in turn allowed Richard Nixon to ride his coattails and amend the Constitution.

The Comedian killed Woodward and Bernstein; thus, no Watergate scandal.

He also shot JFK.

The fight scene in only alluded to in the book briefly; what would have made more sense would have been to include The Comedian's successful fight against Ozymandias, as a counter to Edward Blake's murder at the hands of Adrian Veidt (great casting for those two...but I digress).

I couldn't put it to words...but you are absolutely on the money...this ending is utter shite. If you read the original ending, even though it's quite outlandish, the blame is masked by xenophobia, rather than an angry Dr. Manhattan.

I'll end with this - the book is incredible on a number of levels. Alan puts in an incredible amount of work thematically, but Dave Gibbons kicks it up to another plane; the book is superior to the movie in that YOU control how fast everything occurs.

THAT is the beauty of a well-done graphic novel.

The point is, a movie made from other material should not be dependent on the person having first read that material.

As a FILM, I think Watchmen failed, and from others I talked to who also hadn't read the book, this is a common response.

No film should require you to 'read the book' first.

That said, I'm a fan of Alan Moore, as I said in the review, and am certain the book was better than the film. But the film is NOT the book, and has to be judged on a standalone basis.

Point taken, Lisa...no disagreement here.

As far as movies go, Miracleman would work.

One casting suggestion: Jason Statham as Mike Moran/MM.
